European Union: changes to permitted colours for salmon substitutes

EU Regulation No. 2020/1819 of December 2, 2020 amends EU Regulation No. 1333/2008 on the use of food additives and changes the provisions related to the use of certain colours in salmon substitutes.


Annex II of Regulation No. 1333/2008 is amended for food category 09.2 ‘Processed fish and fishery products including molluscs and crustaceans’ to allow the use of Sunset Yellow FCF (E 110) and Ponceau 4R (E 124) in salmon substitutes based on the fish species Clupea harengus and to clarify the fish species in which colours are allowed.
